Unsupervised machine learning for project stakeholder classification: Benefits and limitations
2023, Project Leadership and SocietyDesigning an expert system to support aviation occurrence investigations
2022, Expert Systems with ApplicationsCitation Excerpt :These techniques include the Rule-Based System (RBS was introduced in the 1960s (Liu, Gegov, & Stahl, 2014)); Fuzzy Logic System (FLS was introduced in 1965 (Zadeh, 1996)); Bayesian Network (BN was introduced in 1985 (Pearl, 1985)); Neural Network (NN was introduced in 1943 (McCulloch & Pitts, 1943)); Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS was introduced in 1993 (Jang, 1993)). BN, NN, and ANFIS are mainly constructed based on Machine Learning (introduced in 1959 (Samuel, 1969)). These overviews are deemed sufficient for this paper as such technologies have been exhaustively described in various published works.
Characterizing fracture toughness using machine learning
2021, Journal of Petroleum Science and EngineeringCitation Excerpt :Machine learning is an appealing approach to mimicking complex behavior (Heidaryan, 2019). Samuel (1959) originated machine learning by verifying that a computer program could learn to play a game better than a human being. Machine learning gives computers the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed and is useful when a problem either has no solution or the existing solution has a large number of tuning parameters (Nasrabadi, 2007).
